The Vets lost to a first half goal in a very hard fought game. The home side had the better of the early possession and created the first chances of the game; Steve Beresford heading goalwards from a Scott Daley throw and an effort from Mark Beeby from a quickly taken corner, but the Birchover keeper was equal to both of these early efforts.
As the half wore on, Birchover found their way in to the game and put pressure on the Calverton back line. Shortly after hitting the bar from a header within the penalty area, tgey took the lead towards the end opening period.
A free kick from just inside the touchline found a Birchover head and the ball came back off the bar, possibly crossing the line before deflecting of Mark Beeby who could do nothing to prevent the ball going in.
Calverton fired a number of free kicks in to the Birchover box, but were unable to find the touch they needed to put the ball in the back of the net.
The second half was much the same; Calverton enjoyed some good possession and looked good on the ball at times. Birchover dealt with things and were able to counter.
As the game neared its close, Calverton enjoyed the majority of the possession and forced a number of free kicks and corners, as well as launching a few long throws in to the box, but somehow, couldn't see the ball home.
A late run from the returning Mark Corcoran saw him slip past a couple of defenders and in to the penalty area before firing a shot in from the right hand corner of the box, but this was again pushed away by the keeper and Calverton saw their last home game of the season end in defeat.
