After a 7 week lay-off due to Christmas break and a postponement due to the snow, Calverton took on Fox Inn at home and looked to reduce the gap to the leaders Dunkirk.
It was a game that nearly didn't go ahead itself after a frost that left the pitch firm ahead of kick off, but after the green loght from the referee, the game got underway and Calverton started brightly as they looked to get back to winning ways after defeat in their last game at Birchover before Christmas.
Ian Bird scored his first goal of the season after a Mark Corcoran shot from the edge of the box was only parried by the keeper; tapping in from close range to open the scoring midway through the first half. Corcoran then added his name to the score sheet with a spectacular effort shortly afterwards and Calverton looked comfortable at 2-0 as the sides went in to the break.
Simon Austin scored his first goal of the season midway through the second half - a fantastic header from a right wing corner.
Fox rarely troubled the Calverton defense and Tyrone Williams thought he'd scored his first of the season, following up on a shot that the keeper pushed on to the bar, only to find out that the referre had disallowed to goal due to an injury sustained by the Calverton goal.
